Embertales Browse tales by genre Embertales is a free AI story RPG: you make a character, describe what they do in your own words, and the Storyteller narrates what happens because of it. No numbered list of moves, and the tale remembers the people and promises it picks up along the way.
These are the tales we wrote to start you off. Pick a genre, or make your own story in the app.
Genres Fantasy 5 Courts, ruins, and the things that live underneath them. These are the tales where a name spoken carelessly is worth something to somebody, and the Storyteller keeps track of who heard you say it. Sci-Fi 2 Ships, stations, and the long quiet in between. Cut the power, lie to the captain, open the door anyway: you write the move, and the tale deals with the version of events you just created. Horror 2 Tales built to go badly. There is no safe choice waiting in a numbered list, because there is no list: you write what you do, and whatever is in the dark responds to that instead. Mystery 4 Somebody is lying and the tale already knows who. Ask, search, accuse — Story Notes keep the names and the contradictions you turn up, so a case builds across a session instead of resetting. Thriller 1 Clocks running down and people who would rather you stopped. Because you type your moves instead of picking them, the half-formed plan you improvise at speed becomes the plan the story has to survive. Romance 5 Two people, one complication, and whatever you actually say out loud. The Storyteller holds on to the promises your character makes, which is a warmer feature than it sounds until it isn't. Adventure 1 Maps with edges and roads that go somewhere. Less about one buried twist than about distance covered, weather endured, and the people met at the point where turning back stopped being an option. Historical 1 Real centuries, invented lives. The setting holds its shape — its money, its distances, its rules about who may speak to whom — while your character does things a person of that time could plausibly do. Drama 2 No monster, no countdown — just people who want incompatible things. The pressure comes entirely from what your character says and from the fact that everyone else remembers them saying it. Western 1 Dust, debt, and a long ride toward nothing good. Frontier tales where the trouble is mostly other people and the law is whoever turned up armed and willing to stay. Fairy Tale 1 Old bargains, three of everything, and rules you break at a price named later. Familiar shapes, told so that knowing the shape is not the same as knowing how it ends for you.
